The Silat Fitrah Multiple Strikes Workshop

Guru Tua Chris Parker Presents

In this workshop, filmed by Steve Reynolds over a decade ago, Guru Tua Chris once again identifies the key principles from which effective movements spring, demonstrating and developing a simple counterattack into a devastating flow that combines angular footwork,a variety of strikes, wrenches and breaks, and some horrible takedowns.

Content includes:

  • Understanding, and applying, the vitally important role of our elbows and knees when delivering multiple strikes.

  • Developing your visual acuity – how to see, understand and respond to your opponent’s movements in an instant.

  •  Developing the angular footwork needed to deliver multiple strikes efficiently and effectively.

  •  Combining forward momentum, sensitivity, targeting and flow.

  •  Ways of combining open hand, forearm and elbow strikes.

  • How to use your shins, knees, forearms and elbows to unbalance your opponent.

  •  How, and when, the ‘hit becomes the takedown’.

  •  How, and when, to deliver devastating attacks that ‘shear’.

  • How to flow effectively from one movement to the next.

  • How – and why - to cover and hit simultaneously.

Instructor Bio:

Chris Parker began training in Silat under the guidance of Bapak Hj Idris bin Alimuda in 1976, when the two met in Cheltenham, England.

As a direct result of Bapak’s influence, Chris started a daily meditation practice in the same year. His experiences with Bapak also inspired him to begin learning about communication and influence. This, too, turned into a lifelong activity.

Controlled breathing exercises were added to his daily routine in the mid 1980s. The initial motivation for this was illness, rather than the inspiration of an exemplary teacher.

Over the years, Chris developed his own approach to sharing the art, which Bapak named Silat Fitrah.

Whilst the martial aspects of Silat Fitrah focus on the use of blades and the threat of multiple opponents, Chris has always prioritised an holistic approach to his training, referring to what he teaches as a Life Art.

This interrelated mix of meditation, controlled breathing and Silat influences every aspect of Chris’s life and continues to be a source of great learning.

Currently, he enjoys the great pleasure of teaching the Silat Fitrah Learning Community alongside two wonderful and talented individuals: Guru Eddie Quinn, the lineage holder to the art, and Guru Katherine Hill.
